Our Story
Adam & Anna
We discovered microgreens when we were looking into ways to eat more plants. We quickly realized that we wanted to grow them for ourselves. Once we started to see their potential impact on our local community – being able to offer healthy, affordable, fresh food to our neighbors – we knew this was our purpose. We can’t wait to share our microgreens with you!
We live in Central MA with our 3 rescue pups. We love to cook, garden, bake, and spend time outdoors. Anna is a nurse practitioner with a continuing growing passion for nutrition. Our kids are actively involved in our business and enjoy eating (most) of the greens! Come say hi at local farmer's markets!
Jack & Julia
For many years, we have been avid gardeners with a special interest in self-sufficiency and growing the healthiest food possible. Julia first came across microgreens online and was immediately interested in their health benefits and year-round accessibility. Jack may have been skeptical at first, but soon fell in love with the idea… and, more importantly, the taste! We started growing them at home as a hobby.
One day, Jack was talking to his sister, and she mentioned that her best friends, Anna and Adam, were growing microgreens for the Holden Farmer’s Market. We were super interested, so we reached out to Adam and Anna in hopes to garner some wisdom and they told us all about their experience and their business called Plant Matter. A few months later, they asked us, “do you guys want to do the Holden Market with us?”
And we said, “Heck Yeah!”
A little bit about us:
After nearly 10 years in the Civil Engineering field, Jack chose to pursue his true passion and went back to school to get a degree in Horticulture, with an interest in food production. He graduated in the spring of 2024 and became a Massachusetts Certified Horticulturalist soon after. Julia is a nurse with inpatient and outpatient experience, who has seen first hand the negative effects that poor nutrition can have on the body. We are excited to bring healthy greens to our local communities across MA, and to also help educate people on the benefits of locally grown produce (for our bodies and for the community)!
Exciting Update!
2024 was a big year for Plant Matter! We went from attending one weekly farmer's market in 2023, to attending 1 monthly and 3 weekly markets in the summer 2024 market season. We are currently attending 3 winter markets that will continue into 2025!
The Plant Matter Team is excited to announce that we are expanding into a larger growing space to be able to reach even more towns and farmer's markets! We are posting updates on our social media pages to share our journey to provide fresh local food to the people of Massachusetts, all year round!
We cannot thank our faithful customers enough. We have met some amazing people at these markets. Your enthusiasm and interest in the world of microgreens is amazing and has inspired us to take this leap into a larger grow area!
